Osteoporosis Australia is an independent, national charity, and our vision is healthy bones for all Australians for life. We aim to improve the bone health of all Australians, and prevent and reduce the disability and pain suffered by people with osteoporosis. We do this through information and education programs, support services, medical research, and advocacy work. Osteoporosis is a major public health issue for Australia, particularly with our ageing population. The impact it has on individuals, as well as on the public health system, is enormous, with one in two women and one in three men over the age of 60 suffering at least one osteoporotic bone fracture. It is estimated that by 2020, one in every three hospital beds will be occupied by someone with an osteoporotic fracture
