Welcome to Paceline 2010

This is the third year that the Paceline ride has taken place and we aim to raise even more funds and awareness for cardiac arrhythmias.  In the past two years we have raised over $30,000 for the Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute and the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, with rides across the USA and from Melbourne to Sydney.

In 2010 we are riding 1100km from Adelaide to Melbourne and our target is $60,000

Paceline is a charity bike ride which raises awareness and funds for cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats). The funds gathered through Paceline are directed to research which enhances our understanding of these debilitating disorders.

With more then 400,000 Australians having one kind of cardiac arrhythmias or another, and this number constantly growing, it is essential that every effort is made to promote understanding and develop treatments.

Having funding will allow us to better understand why cardiac arrhythmias occur, enabling us to develop cures whilst also producing strong rehabilitation programmes to change the lives of the people with these conditions.

Please help us achieve our objective by donating funds to our two world class research facilities, Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute and the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.

Money raised for Baker IDI will contribute to the work of Associate Professor Peter Kistler, a cardiologist and scientist who specialises in understanding the mechanisms underlying atrial arrhythmias.  Professor Kistler and his team are specifically investigating why atrial fibrillation is so common.

Professor Robert Graham, Executive Director of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute (VCCRI), commented that much work was needed to help more people like Steve, which is why the Institute has developed major programs, led by Associate Professors Diane Fatkin and Jamie Vandenberg, to investigate how various heart muscle diseases, including Atrial Fibrillation (AF), are affected by different genes, hormones and growth factors.  In the long term, the identification of disease-causing genes should help in the design of drug therapies that may assist in either the prevention or control of heart disease, and provide heart patients with a better quality of life and a better chance of survival.
