Freehills for 40k Foundation
Creator   Kirstin Hunter
Close at  Saturday, 11 December 2010
In 2009, a bunch of us from Freehills decided to run crazy distances in order to raise money for a very good cause. We're back again in 2010, this time teaming up with a coalition of corporate organisations, and we're hoping to raise even more money for 40k Foundation.

40k Foundation is a not-for-profit foundation built from the ground up by young Australians to make a meaningful impact on the developing world. Their maiden project, building an eco-sustainable education and boarding facility for kids living on and around the granite quarry sites of Bangalore, will open on October 3.

We're hoping to raise enough money to make sure things go smoothly on October 3, and to give 40k Foundation a boost to get them on their way for their next project.

Please help us to make a difference by making a donation to this page. All donations great or small are very welcome!

40K -The 40K Foundation Australia Fund
40K takes on cost-effective poverty-reducing education projects that empower people to realise their right to social and economic development.

Our maiden project was the building of a bridging school to benefit the families of exploited quarry workers in the rural slums around Bangalore. With their families unable to afford to send them to school, the children will now have access to crucial stimulation and education during their key developmental years. The bridging school will therefore provide remedial education for up to 150 children at a time, to bring them up to speed before they are placed into the local mainstream schooling. This otherwise unavailable access to education will make a massive difference to these children’s lives and afford them the opportunities, which were not available to their parents, to work their way out of poverty.

We now want to have a greater impact by providing educational opportunities to over 2,000 children per year. This will involve partnerships with three local  and highly experienced non-profit organisations in India to provide access to libraries, reading programs, after school programs and vital life skills programs.

Everyone in the 40K Foundation Team is going to kill themselves (or die trying) by running in the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival, to raise money for 40K (www.40k.com.au). That's not to mention all the hours of blood, sweat and tears (mostly tears) and kilometres of training we will put in through blistering heat and driving rain.

40K is a youth led, Australian based non-profit organisation that takes on joint venture projects to reduce poverty in developing communities around the world in a sustainable manner. Our maiden project is in India, where we are building a bridging school to benefit the children of exploited quarry workers in the rural slums around Bangalore. You can check it all out at www.40k.com.au.

40K has launched its Golden Granite Challenge, which is about getting people to take on challenges whilst raising funds for 40K. It can be any challenge, anywhere around the world. This could be running a marathon, not cutting your hair or shaving for a year, or just giving up alcohol (we'd rather run). Challengers will take a piece of granite taken from a quarry in India to remind them of the challenges that these exploited quarry workers face daily. And if this wasn't enough, it gives you a chance for ultimate glory: to join us in the 40K Golden Granite Hall of Fame.

Please dig deep and give generously, anything you're able to give will be greatly appreciated and will make a huge difference.

Please forward on this web page to anyone you think might be interested in giving 40K a hand or participating in the Golden Granite Challenge. If you want to take on the granite and challenge yourself, get in touch with the team at 40K on (02) 9221 4030.

Thanks so much for your support,

Everyone in the 40K Foundation Team
