Jonesy takes the Golden Granite to Tazzy
Creator   Justin Jones
Close at  Monday, 12 April 2010
I am going to absolutely bust myself by running 82kms in Tasmania's longest ultra-marathon, the Cradle Mountain Run. Only 60 runners are allowed to do it.

I'm doing this to raise funds for 40K, a non-profit doing some awesome work over in Bangalore (see below or check out their website, www.40khome.org).

40K launched a fundraising program this year called The Golden Granite. It's about getting people to take on challenges like this taking with them a piece of granite from a quarry in Bangalore India, and using it to raise funds for 40K.

The best part about this 'fun run' is that should I stumble over the finish line, I will gain eternal glory by being the 1st person to get into the 40K Golden Granite Hall of Fame, which you will be able to see at www.40khome.org when I finish the race.

Thanks heaps for your support- wish me luck!
(Do Not Use - OLD) The 40K Home Foundation
40K takes on cost-effective poverty-reducing education projects that empower people to realise their right to social and economic development.

Our maiden project was the building of a bridging school to benefit the families of exploited quarry workers in the rural slums around Bangalore. With their families unable to afford to send them to school, the children will now have access to crucial stimulation and education during their key developmental years. The bridging school will therefore provide remedial education for up to 150 children at a time, to bring them up to speed before they are placed into the local mainstream schooling. This otherwise unavailable access to education will make a massive difference to these children’s lives and afford them the opportunities, which were not available to their parents, to work their way out of poverty.

We now want to have a greater impact by providing educational opportunities to over 2,000 children per year. This will involve partnerships with three local  and highly experienced non-profit organisations in India to provide access to libraries, reading programs, after school programs and vital life skills programs.
