Cho Oyu Climb for Gawura
Cho Oyu Climb for Gawura
Story
I will be on a charity mountain climb in Nepal and Tibet for the next three months. God willing, I shall be back at St Andrew's for the beginning of Term IV.
I am dedicating my climb to the students of Gawura. They work hard each and every day and are achieveing amazing things! Please show your support for this inspired program which is quietly and methodically setting new standards for Indigenous education.
If you wish to keep up with my progress, you can follow my blog here:

Gawura Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander School (St Andrew's Cathedral School Foundation)
The education of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is a matter of social justice in our land.
Gawura is a unique primary day school programme for disadvantaged Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in Sydney who live at home with their families. Gawura provides places for 35 Indigenous students in a multi-stage classroom, focusing on literacy and numeracy acquisition in an environment that celebrates Indigenous cultures as a pre-eminent part of the learning environment. Close collaboration with parents and families is critical to the success of this program and to the continued engagement of the students.
The aim of the programme is for our Gawura students to achieve educational outcomes equal to (or better than) their non-Indigenous peers. Our mission is to break the entrenched cycle of disadvantage experienced by Indigenous children by providing them the best opportunity for educational success, a choice of direction for the future and a foundation upon which they can build for the rest of their lives.
