The challenge

What is a virtual running festival?

A virtual running festival is a running event where participants are challenged to run (or walk) from 5k to 50k from any location. You can run on a treadmill, in a park, at the gym or on a track however, we ask you to keep yourself and others safe and follow local social-distancing requirements. You get to run your own race, at your own pace at any time between the 7th and 9th August and time it yourself. 

What is Run for the Herd?

Our Run for the Herd initiative encourages people to take charge of their health, fitness and wellbeing by participating in various fun runs throughout the year.

Who are batyr?

batyr is a for purpose preventative mental health organisation, created and driven by young people, for young people.

What do I need to do?

Joining Run for the Herd's virtual running festival is easy. Sinply:

 

  1. To take part, simply sign up
  2. Choose a distance to run, walk or move
  3. Raise funds and awareness for batyr by telling your friends, family and colleagues about your challenge
  4. Complete your challenge between the 7th and 9th August

 

Do I have to run?

No! You can jog or walk or challenge yourself to cover the distance in a different way. If you are a wheelchair user, you can adjust the kilometres in a way that will be challenging for you.

How do I sign up?

How much does it cost to sign up?

Entry is free! Sign up here to create your fundraising profile and to keep up to date with the festival.

Why should I sign up?

Signing up allows you to create a fundraising page which you can use to spread the word about your challenge and where people can donate to support you. 

 

Your fundraising page will track donations your supporters make so you can see how much you have raised and after the event, you will receive a digital certificate of appreciation for your effort.

How do I register a team?

  1. Team leaders can sign up their team here
  2. When asked, are you signing up as choose 'Part of a team'
  3. Select the relevant team type (school, corporate team, community team or a team of friends and family)
  4. Enter your team name
  5. Then enter your details as team leader
  6. When choosing a distance, this can be the distance your whole team run or the distance each team member runs
  7. Choose 'create team' on the fundraising page set up to create your team page

How do I join a team?

  1. Sign up to join a team here
  2. When asked, are you signing up as choose 'Part of a team'
  3. Select the relevant team type that you are joining (school, corporate team, community team or a team of friends and family)
  4. Enter your team name
  5. Then enter your details
  6. Choose the distance you want to run, walk or move 
  7. Choose 'search team' and start typing your team name to find them on the list and click or tap on the team name. 
  8. Select join this team

How to join batyr’s Run for the Herd Strava club

If you are a Strava user, you’ll want to join batter’s Run for the Herd Strava club where you can join share your training and virtual run with the herd. To join:

 

  1. Download the Stravas app too your mobile and create an account
  2. Tap on the Explore button and select Clubs in the menu
  3. Enter 'Run for the Herd' in the search bar
  4. Tap on the Run for the Herd club and press Join

 

Fundraising

 

Can I donate without running?

Yes you can. You can make a donation to the Run for the Herd campaign here. Alternatively, you can choose to sponsor an individual or team here.

How to donate to Run for the Herd campaign

You can make a donation to the Run for the Herd campaign by donating to one of the individuals or teams who are taking part in the virtual running festival.

 

Simply, visit the Donate page and choose the runner or team you want to support and click/tap the Donate button beneath their picture. 

 

If you can't see the runner or team you are looking for, try entering their name in the search bar and choosing whether they are an individual, team leader or team member and pressing search to find them.

 

Can I make a donation directly to batyr?

Yes you can! Simply contact our accounts team acounts@batyr.com.au who will be able to assist you.

Where do the funds raised go?

Funds raised will go to delivering batyr programs which use the personal stories of young people who have experienced and successfully managed mental ill-health to educate other young people on the benefits of reaching out during difficult times.

How do I update my fundraising goal?

When you sign up you will receive a thank you email containing a link to edit your profile where you can change your target amount. 

 

Don't forget to check your junk mail folder if you cannot see this email in your inbox.

How do I raise funds?

Tracking your run

How to connect your fitbit account to your fundraising profile

  1. Go to your fundraising account and tap on ‘Connect apps’
  2. Select ‘Connect to fitbit’
  3. Log into your fitbit account (in the pop-up window) and authorise
  4. Allow for your fundraising page to sync with fitbit
  5. Once synced, your training runs and ‘run for the herd’ run will appear under the Activity tab

How to connect your Strava account to your fundraising profile

  1. Go to your fundraising account and tap on ‘Connect apps’
  2. Select ‘Connect to Strava’
  3. Log into your Strava account (in the pop-up window) and tap ‘Authorise’
  4. Allow 24 hours for your fundraising page to sync with Strava
  5. Once synced, your runs will appear under the Activity tab

Don’t forget to tag your runs on Strava with ‘Run for the herd’ to show your supporters your commitment to the challenge

 

 

Merchandise

 

I raised $100/$250 will I get a pair of socks or a singlet?

The first 100 people within Australia to raise $100 before 22nd July will receive a free pair of batyr socks and the first 100 people within Australia to raise $250 before 22nd July will receive a batyr ‘Run for the Herd’ singlet.

 

You can receive both socks and the singlet if you are in the first 100 people to fundraise to the relevant values.

 

Please select your preferred size when signing up.

What sock sizes are available?

Socks are available in two sizes:

  • Medium (men's size 2-7)
  • Large (men's size 7-11)

You can select your size when signing up for Run for the Herd

What sizes are the singlets?

Singlets are available in the following sizes:

  • Child: 8, 10, 12, 14, 16
  • Male: Small, Medium, Large, XL, XXL, XXL
  • Female:  8,  10,  12, 14, 16, 18
