Eyes For India

Story

Dear friends, family and supporters

I have decided to challenge myself (again) while making a difference.  I have signed up to do the 25000 spins bike ride along the Great Ocean Road (Geelong to Wornambool) in early February 2017.  This three day ride will take place over more than 290 kilometres.  The purpose of this ride is to raise money for charity, and I have chosen Eyes For India to be the cause I fundraise for.  See below for an outline of what Eyes For India does:

I am aiming to raise $2550, this will help 34 people to see. However, the more I raise the more people can see again. To do this I need donations from friends, family and anyone else willing to give.  If you feel you are able to make a donation, big or small, simply click the green "Donate" link on this page and follow the prompts.

“Your donation is the lifeblood of charity so Donate Now!”

Click 'Donate' now to make a secure online donation.

Help do even more by 'liking', leaving a 'comment' and 'sharing' my page too. Every little bit helps to reach my target of $2550. So please dig deep for this great cause and help make a difference.

Thank you friends, family and other supporters for your kind donations and best wishes.

Eyes for India

Of the 1.2 billion people living in India, more than 15 million are afflicted with sight-impairing conditions. In many these cases, sight could be restored with one very simple surgery.

Dr. Jacob Prabhakar, an ophthalmologist who is medical director of Ruby Nelson Memorial Hospital, heads a team of professionals who conduct screening clinics in rural communities to find candidates for the surgical procedure of removing the defective lens and implanting an intraocular lens.

A vehicle with medical staff and basic screening equipment travels to rural villages where clinics have previously been scheduled. There they find candidates for the cataract surgery procedure among the hundreds who are screened.

Those selected for the surgery are transported to a local hospital equipped for surgeries, or to the Ruby Nelson Memorial Hospital.

Patients are prepared for the surgical procedure by trained personnel. Since the actual cataract surgery takes only 2-3 minutes, patients are prepared and made ready. As many as 300 surgeries can be performed in one day.

Following the surgery, patients are kept up to three days for post-operative care and observation before returning to their home village.

Greatful patients return to their home villages rejoicing in their renewed gift of sight. They in turn become ambassadors of goodwill to others in their villages
